Do you know the reason behind the long ago custom when children were taught to bring an apple to school for the teacher? Why would this educated lady need so many apples every day?
The answer is the teacher would surreptitiously hand out these sweet fruits to the children that were too poor to bring a lunch with them. This tradition was not regularly spoke of out of a consideration for the families experiencing hard times. It was a quiet unity between the parents who taught respect, the teacher who showed compassion, and the children who learned from both. True charity is often a silent and beautiful fact of humanity. This is partially why I am resistant of a person who builds one’s image on charity. For me there is something very honorable and genuine about helping someone without the world needing recognizing it. It keeps dignity and faith in oneself at a very fragile time for the recipient. If there is an outright demand for accommodation this is a red flag for me that there's something twisted about the scenario. I urge to keep in mind at where charity really begins and circumvent the people who use it for leverage.
